Therapy for Older Adults & Caregivers in Colorado

Your experience matters at every stage of life.

Aging and caregiving can change more than your routine.

Changes in health, independence, family roles, or care needs can bring up grief, uncertainty, and difficult decisions. You may be navigating those changes in your own life, supporting someone you love, or making sense of an experience of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

There is room here for your perspective—not only the concerns other people have about you or the responsibilities they need you to manage.

Support after elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation

Experiencing harm from someone you trusted or having your safety, money, care, or independence put at risk, can affect far more than the immediate situation. You may be sorting through fear, anger, grief, self-doubt, or changes in family relationships. You may also feel frustrated by how many people have talked about you while you’ve been trying to make your own voice heard.

Before opening Summit Point Counseling, I spent years in Adult Protective Services working with older adults and families affected by abuse, neglect, and exploitation. In therapy, my role is to support your mental health. We can make sense of what happened, explore how it is affecting you now, and work toward rebuilding trust and a sense of choice at a pace that feels right for you.

What this might look like

  • Changes in independence

Adjusting to new needs while holding on to your voice, preferences, and sense of self.

  • Caregiver stress

Supporting someone you love while trying to recognize your own needs and limits.

  • Safety and trust

Working through the impact of abuse, neglect, or exploitation at your own pace.

Your voice guides the work

We’ll begin with your perspective: what’s changing, what feels difficult, and what you want support with. I won’t assume that an older adult and their family see a situation the same way, or that a caregiver’s only goal is to keep doing more. Your needs, values, and choices will guide our work.

For older adults, we might explore changes in independence, identity, relationships, or the impact of abuse or neglect. For caregivers, we might make room for grief, frustration, guilt, family conflict, and the challenge of setting limits. We can work through a current decision, notice patterns that keep adding to the stress, and find practical ways to cope.

My approach draws on your strengths and what matters to you. I bring years of experience in aging and Adult Protective Services, but you are the expert on your own life. We’ll check in regularly about what’s helping and adjust our work as your needs change.
